SGI and SGN sight glasses indicate too high moisture content in the refrigeration system, lack of subcooling, or refrigerant deficiency. SGI and SGN sight glasses are equipped with sensitive indicators that reflect a colour, depending on the moisture content in the refrigerant.

SGI sight glasses are designed for use with refrigerants where lubrication is by mineral oil, e.g. HCFC.

SGN sight glasses are designed for use with non-flammable HFC refrigerants.
